CAP Manual:
Books
Title labels The Title label should be applied to the fly leaf in the upper-right hand corner as in the example below. If there is writing or a picture on the fly leaf (advertisements excepted), the label should be applied to the inside of the front cover or on the back of the fly leaf. If there is not an appropriate location in any of these places, the label should be cut down as small as possible (without losing any information) and placed somewhere along the top of the fly leaf or under the barcode on the back of the book. Information should not be obscured.
Library ID labels
The Library ID label should always be placed below the Title label as in the example below. For placement guidelines, see "Title labels" above.

Take care not to put the title label (or any other label) too close to the edge of the page. This is too close:

Spine labels Spine labels (the small labels) should be
placed on the spine of the book about 1/8th inch from the bottom. There should be at least enough room for the
first three letters to show on the spine.
Spine labels are not necessarily
centered. If the spine is narrower
than the label, the label should be aligned so that the first letter of the
label is flush with the beginning of the spine.
If the spine is too narrow for this, the spine
label should be placed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover
This is not correct:

Here is an example of a correctly-handled narrow spine:
Dots The proper colored dot for the library should be placed over the spine label so that the lower edge of the dot matches up with the lower edge of the label. If the spine label is on the front cover, the dot and category stickers should still be placed on the spine aligned against the bottom edge.

Category Stickers
For books designated as MYS, SPANISH, SCI/FI, WEST, or YOUNG ADULT, there are special stickers that must be applied to the spine directly above the spine label. Check the call number to see if the book you are working on requires one of these stickers.
If the call number specifies more than one special sticker, place the stickers on the spine of the book according to their order on the Spine Label.

Security ALBRIGHT and ABINGTON books receive security strips. If possible, the spine security tag should be placed in the spine of the book. If a strip cannot be inserted into the spine, a between-pages strip can be used. This strip should be placed between two pages near the back of the book where it will not be noticed. It should be placed close to the spine as possible.
ALBRIGHT REFERENCE items also receive special Reference Department "Checkpoint" stickers which are placed inside the back cover in the lower left-hand corner.
Whenever books have received security strips, this should be be indicated by leaving the backing of the strip or the backing of the title label sticking out of the top of the book.

Protection For all books, protection must be applied to preserve the labels and the cover.
