Book with a cassette tape or unattached CD (e.g., Read-Along Books, Recorded Books New Reader etc.)

Labels:

Title label            The title label should go on the page opposite the inside of the front cover of the book in the upper right-hand corner above the library address label.  If there is text or a picture on this page (ads excepted), the label can go on the inside of the front cover, or on the back of that page.  If there is no room any of these places, the label should be cut down as small as possible (without losing any information) and placed somewhere along the top of the original page, covering as little information as possible. For Recorded Books New Reader materials, print out a second title label. The first label should be affixed to the book in the usual location. The second title label should be placed on the bottom left-hand corner of the front of the box.

Spine label           Spine labels should be placed on the spine of the book, 1/8th inch from the bottom.  There should be at least enough room for the first three letters to show on the spine.  Spine labels are not necessarily centered.  If the spine is narrower than the label, the label should be lined up so that the first letter of the label is flush with the beginning of the spine.  If the spine is too narrow for this, the spine label should be placed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. For Recorded Books New Reader materials, print out a second spine label. The first label should be affixed to the book in the usual location. The second spine label should be placed on the case.

Dots                     A colored dot indicating the owning library should be placed over the spine label so that the lower edge of the dot matches up with the lower edge of the label.  If the spine label is on the front cover of the book, the dot should be placed on the spine, all the way to the bottom.

Special Stickers     For kits designated as YA, MYS, WEST or SCI/FI (as determined by the first partt of the call number), there are special stickers that go on the spine of the book, directly above the spine label.  Check the call number to see if the kit you are working on needs one of these stickers.

Protection            Hardback book covers should be laminated.  If the book is paperback, clear tape should be placed over all spine labels and stickers.  If the cassette or CD is loose, place the material in a appropriate case.  Both the book and the cassette should go into a hanging plastic bag.

Security            Abington and Albright items get security.  For details, see the sections on hardcover and paperback books.
